Whole Wheat Idly


Whole wheat idly is one of the healthy breakfasts. I always prefer steam cooking for breakfast.
 I love steam cooking due to health conscious that is why I am searching different recipes based on steam cooking. I got this recipe from food magazine. I tried this for 3 times, got good taste. I hope everyone enjoy this recipe.
 
Ingredients:

Whole wheat -1 cup

Par-boiled rice -1 tbsp
Urad dal -1/2 cup
Ravva (semolina) -1 tbsp
Cumin seeds -1tbsp
Grated carrot -1/4 cup
Chopped coriander - 2 tbsp
Salt to taste
Ghee for greasing

Method of preparation:


  1. Heat a pan, add the whole wheat and fry them till it turns to dark brown in color, saute continuously on a medium flame. Remove and keep aside.
  2. In the same pan, add the rice and roast for a minute on a high flame.
  3. Cool the rice and wheat and soak in enough of water for 6 – 8 hours. Keep aside.
  4. Wash thoroughly and soak the urad dal in enough water for an hour.
  5. Grind the soaked whole wheat, rice and urad dal into smooth paste, using little water as per required to make an idly batter.
  6. In a mixing bowl, combine the idly batter, semolina, carrots, cumin seeds, coriander and salt, mix well.
  7. Grease the idly moulds with the ghee and fill in the idly batter.
  8. Steam the idly for 8 –10 minutes or until they cook and become soft.
  9. Serve hot with coconut chutney or sambar.
