Ingredients:
Oats - 1 cup
Moong dal - 1/2 cup
Green chilly - 2
jeera - 1 tsp
Afoetida - 1 tsp
Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
Ginger slices - 2 tsp
Black pepper (crushed) - 2 tsp
Cashew nuts - few
Curry leaves - few
Coriander (chopped) -2 tbsp
Ghee - 2 tbsp
Water - 11/2 cup
Salt to taste
Method of preparation:
- Soak moong dal in water for 15 minutes.
- Heat Ghee in a pan, add jeera, green chilly and asafoetida and saute for a while.
- Add ginger slices,curry leaves,crushed black pepper and cashew nuts and saute for a minute.
- Add soaked moong dal, turmeric and salt and mix well. Add water and boil them until it cooks well.
- When it comes to a rolling boil add 1 cup of Oats, stir continuously to avoid lumps. Cover and cook on medium flame until get cooks well .
- Garnish with Coriander leaves and dribble few drops of ghee.
- Hot and tasty oats pongal is ready to eat with any chutney or sambar.
