Jowar /Jonna / Pearl Millet Upma



Ingredients:


Jonna ravva-1 cup
Chopped onions-1/4 cup

Green chilli-2

Curry leaves-7 or 8

Urad dal-1 tsp
 
Oil-2 tbsp
Chana dal-1 tsp
 
Water -2 cups
Mustard seeds-1 tsp
 
Coriander leaves (chopped)-2 tbsp  
Jeera-1tsp  
Salt to taste
            

How to make Jonna ravva:

  1.  First pan fry the jowar(pearl millet) without oil and cool them for some time.
  2. Grind the jonnalu in mixer grinder for coarse powder like ravva.
  3. Separate the fine powder from above coarse powder by sieving. Now we can use ravva for upma.

How to make Upma:

  1. Heat the pan, add oil ,add urad dal, chana dal, mustard seeds,jeera,green chilli,  Curry  leaves and add chopped onions, saute for  2 mints.
  2. Add 2 cups of water, boil them.
  3. When it comes to rolling boil, add 1 cup of ravva, stir continuously to avoid lumps.
  4. Cover the pan with lid and cook for some time to get good smell.
  5. Garnish with coriander leaves. Now hot hot upma is ready to serve with chutney of Ur choice.
