Spicy Puffed Rice (Murmura)



Puffed rice is light and dry, ideal for obese people, as it is very low in calories and gives a feeling of fullness.Puffed rice is high in iron and easy to digest.It is an ideal and flexible snack food for a wheat and gluten-free diet.

Ingredients:
                Puffed rice (murmura, maramaralu)-1 cup                             
                Onion-1(finely chopped)
                     Tomato-1(cut into small cubes)                                            
                     Green chillies-1(finely chopped)
                 Mustard seeds-1 tsp                                                            
                 Red chilli powder-1/2 tbsp
                 Asafoetida (hing)- a pinch                                                     
                 Vegetable oil-2 tbsp
                 Lemon juice -1 tsp                                                               
                 Coriander leaves-2 tbsp (finely chopped)
                 Dhania-jeera powder-1tsp
                 Roasted Peanuts -2 tbsp 
                 Roasted chick peas(chana dal) powder - 2 tbsp
                 Salt to taste 
       
Method of preparation:
  1. Soak the puffed rice in water for 2 minutes, and then drain all the water, pressing the rice lightly.
  2. Heat oil in a pan, add asafoetida and mustard seeds. When the seeds start popping, add the chilies, onions, and a little salt, and saute for 2-3 minutes. Cover and cook until the onions are translucent.
  3. Add the tomatoes and saute for 2 minutes.
  4. Add the dhania-jeera powder and red chilly powder, and saute for a minute.
  5. Add the puffed rice, Roasted chick peas powder,  roasted peanuts and salt and mix well. Cover and cook on medium heat for 2 minutes till the puffed rice is cooked.
  6. Add the chopped coriander leaves and sprinkle lemon juice.
  7. Serve the spicy puffed rice hot. This is the best evening snack for everyone.
